Frederick, Maryland has quietly become one of the Mid-Atlantic’s most exciting destinations for craft beverage lovers. Nestled in the heart of downtown, just steps from Carroll Creek Park and the city’s vibrant restaurant scene, McClintock Distilling is one of the most unique places you can visit — whether you’re a lifelong spirits enthusiast or someone who has never set foot in a distillery before.

If you’re planning a trip to our tasting room or just curious about what a distillery visit actually looks like, here’s everything you need to know.

Where We Are

We’re located at 35 South Carroll Street in the heart of Downtown Frederick, MD. Parking on South Carroll Street is metered but free after 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and free all day on Sundays. Additional parking is available at the All Saints Garage at 125 E. All Saints Street. We’re an easy walk from dozens of restaurants, shops, and other attractions — make a day of it.

Our Tasting Room Hours

  • Tuesday – Thursday: 12–6 pm
  • Friday – Saturday: 12–8 pm
  • Sunday: 12–6 pm

We are closed on Mondays. We occasionally close for private events and weddings, so it’s worth checking our availability before you visit — you can call us at 240-825-5921 or check for any updates on our social media pages.

Tastings: What to Expect

When you arrive at our tasting room, you’ll find a welcoming, laid-back space with exposed brick and industrial accents — it feels as much like a neighborhood bar as it does a production facility, because in a way it’s both.

A tasting flight costs just $5 and is fully refunded with the purchase of any bottle in the tasting room. You’ll have the chance to sample our core lineup, which currently includes:

  • Bootjack Rye Whiskey — bold and spicy with a sweet banana bread finish
  • Matchstick Straight Bourbon — rich honey and fig nose with a butterscotch and vanilla finish
  • Forager Gin — hibiscus and lavender with refreshing cucumber, citrus, and lemongrass
  • Gardener’s Gin — earthy, floral, and citrus-forward with classic juniper structure
  • McClintock’s Reserve Gin — bold and complex with dark fruits and baking spices
  • Epiphany Vodka — smooth and crisp with a sweet, creamy finish
  • Oro Cucumber Lime Infused Vodka — bright and refreshing
  • Coffee Liqueur — cold brew notes with dark chocolate, cinnamon, and walnut

Our staff are knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic — don’t hesitate to ask questions about the spirits, the production process, or our ingredient sourcing. We love talking about this stuff.

Distillery Tours

If you want to go deeper, we offer guided distillery tours on Saturdays and Sundays:

  • Saturday: Noon, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm
  • Sunday: Noon, 2 pm, 4 pm

Tours are free of charge and typically last about 20 minutes. You’ll get a look at our production floor, learn about our stone burr mill, see how we work with organic heirloom grains, and hear the story behind McClintock Young — the 19th-century Frederick inventor whose spirit of innovation inspired the company’s founding.

Tours are capped at 50 people, so they occasionally sell out on busy weekends. You can book in advance by calling 240-825-5921 or by using our online booking system.

Dogs, Groups, and Good News

A few things people always ask:

  • Dogs are welcome on our outdoor patio (but not inside the production area, per health regulations).
  • Groups are welcome. For parties of 30 or more, you can reserve the tasting room and distillery for a private event.
  • No food on-site, but you’re welcome to bring your own. Downtown Frederick has no shortage of great spots to pick up food nearby.

What Makes McClintock Different

We’re not just another tasting room. McClintock Distilling is Maryland’s first certified organic distillery. Every spirit we produce starts with locally sourced, pesticide-free heirloom grains that we grind ourselves using a stone burr mill — a process that preserves the natural oils and flavors most large-scale distilleries lose in production.

We’re proud of that commitment, and we think you’ll taste the difference.
